The “Test and Trace” system was launched yesterday (May 28) in England.

What happens if an employee is traced and forced to self-isolate – can they claim SSP?

In short, yes. Entitlement to SSP has been extended to employees who are required to isolate under the new Test and Trace system. Hence, if an employee is traced under the new system and has to isolate for 14 days because they’ve been in contact with someone who has COVID 19, they are entitled to SSP (at £95.85 per week) from day one of isolation (this was previously the case for those who had to self-isolate as a direct result of the virus and were claiming SSP).
